49:55.73N 01:04.99E Wednesday – another early start and it’s out into high winds and big seas.  It’s lumpy and cold and I wish I’d stayed in bed.  Things start to improve once the sails are set on a close haul, later to become a close reach then a beam then a broad reach, and the sea calms down as we get further from the coast.  Once again we’ve maximised the tidal help and we sweep into Dieppe for a second breakfast/early lunch.  We’ve been hearing a lot from home about the Tour de France passing through Yorkshire but we don’t feel left out as we’ve happened upon our own Tour – the tour de france a la voile (www.tourvoile.fr if you’re interested).  As you can see, Mira is parked up at the end of the race boats.  The tour is big news and there are crowds here lined up to see them off this afternoon on the next stage while we have a grandstand view from the cockpit.  It’s racing in stages from Dunkerque to Nice over 3 weeks – Groupama is the current leader so we will follow her progress.
