49:45.72N 00:22.00E We leave in the dark just before 3am and make our way gingerly out of the harbour to make the most of the tide.  Although the breeze is gentle it’s a beam reach so we enjoy full sail all the way and bowl along on a good tidal stream – Mira loves it and it feels pretty good to us too.  Cherbourg has just been commemorating the 60th anniversary of its liberation and we’re reminded of that as we start to cross the Baie de Seine, as the beaches code-named Utah, Omaha and Juno are clearly marked on the chart.  Just before we approach Le Havre (I didn’t realise this is where the Seine comes out to the sea) we cross the Greenwich meridian so it’s all points east from now on.  It’s amazing how the landscape has changed along this coastline, first the jagged rocky coastline of Brittany, then the sandy beaches and now we meet high white cliffs.  It seems there’s no access but then we see a dip in the cliffs and this is where Fecamp nestles.  A good day and another 80 miles under our belt – I think Mira’s as keen to see England as we are.
