43:22.01N 08:23.13W Wednesday – another early start and this time Mira sets out ahead of Signet although we see her leaving harbour as we leave the Ria.  We’ve a 50 mile hop and we’re on a mission to get to La Coruna before strong winds set in for the rest of the week.  The wind’s very light but at a better angle today and we’re able to have all guns blazing – mainsail, headsail and engine.  The main issue today is swell, 2m on the beam, and the autohelm can’t cope as we get tossed about so it’s hand steering most of the way.  Still, the promised showers don’t materialise and it’s another fast passage around the final corner into the Bay of Biscay and La Coruna.  We’re in and tied up just in time to help Signet into the berth alongside.  In contrast to the last few harbours La Coruna is bustling and cosmopolitan, with ensigns from France, UK, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Holland all around us as well as the local Spanish boats.  It’s another Gibraltar – a staging post for everyone whether travelling north or south.
