Tuesday 01 October - we've had a 'clunk' on the boat since leaving Greece. At first we thought it only irritating and assumed it was badly stowed kit shifting back and forth. Gordon eventually narrowed it down to the rudder moving so it immediately became critical. Nisos (our charter company back in Greece) advised us on the remedial action but it takes a special tool. Also, we've been connected to dodgy shore power and it appears that our battery management system is not working as it should and our 2 big service batteries are no longer holding charge - another critical situation as the batteries are our hub for lights, water pumping and navigation instruments. Hence another day in Cagliari while we sort it out. Sourcing the tool and batteries (which need to be a certain size and shape to fit in the locker) is wearisome and our folding bikes have yet again come into their own - thankyou David, they're proving a great present. The local people have been magnificent with Riccardo from the marina collecting the tool for us and the chandlery delivering the batteries to the boat about 8pm. If allis well we'll leave tomorrow.
