“20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones that you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbours. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” (Mark Twain)

So here we are all set for our Great Adventure, albeit not in the trade winds, but to the Baltic and St Petersburg. We started preparing our boat in February with some modifications to our sail reefing system and our winter maintenance programme. We also had a new suite of navigation electronics which were delayed until May. Delays like these, plus various frustrations and setbacks which go with owning a 26 year old boat, meant that we missed a lovely settled period of weather last weekend to set off and are now having to dodge between spells of stronger wind and rain. We have decided to delay our departure by a further 12 hours until early tomorrow morning to accommodate a better forecast, though there is the promise of stronger winds in the Friesian Islands on Friday evening. Slightly anxious as this is our first North Sea crossing.
