Fri 3 June To town of Yithion (or with a G!) in north west corner of huge eastern gulf Lakonikos Kolpos 10nm (S1 M1.5)

Windy night with gusts from mountains. Comfy- 40m chain no swell. Calm morning. Such clear air can see for miles. Sun feels v strong too.Depart 0830, look at mole in nw corner – not convinced could go stern too as suggested in Nicholas` pilot.  Wf3 fills in as cross Ormos Vathi so unfurl genoa. Motor last 1.5nm. Vast harbour but most of main breakwater being rebuilt or something. Clear area well in so go alongside 1100. Coast guard arrives later and asks us to go stern too so room for more as strong wind down gulf may mean lots of visitors tonight– (wrongly) assured no junk on bottom50m chain out. Takes well – severe gusty crosswind first from s, later from n. Help two other Brits go stern too in difficult conditions. Busy town, good sms, bakery, wonderful cherries and apricots, but no replacement gas anywhere. Reserve hirecar for next weekend to pick up Rachel and Cat from Kalamata. Walk to plain island (Kranai) joined to mainland by causeway, beer in quayside taverna – with occasional wiff of sewage. Functional place.
