Astra ahoy, Angela arrives and Jane`s birthday

39:44.25N 19:55.9E Monday 18 August and Tuesday 19 August Rob GG and gang fly in to Astra, Angela arrives Liveloula, for Jane`s Birthday Monday 18 In Gouvia Marina. Rob and friends arrived late last night so pop round to say hi and collect Italian/French charts/pilots. Arrange engineer to visit Liveloula to investigate hot water tank issues and engine overheating. Two thermostats tested and OK, so replaced safety valve. Seems to have done trick as no drips to bilges now. Go for test motor – engineer has magic thermometer with infra red gun – points red beams at hot water pipes and it tells temp. How brill is that. Temp ok up to 2500 revs, but heats up after that. OK for rest of season but recommends good cooling system clean out in winter. Also learn of Yanmar weakness where cooling water and exhaust mixes. Bend needs replacing every few years tho can be given extra life with application of special glue when crack first appears. (Have now bought some!) Return after engine test to eversonarrow space on H pontoon, so can fill with potable fw. Get 8 tins BBeans from sm, less than a euro a can, plus other provisions. Some for autumn voyage on D`fly. Glue duck transom back on. Angela arrives 2245. Only two cases this year! V friendly driver – he know where H pontoon is. Dash ashore for coffee (Ang) beer (skip & Jane). Tuesday 19 Depart Gouvia 1400 Arrive Agni Bay 1600 8nm M2 Girls doearly swim in pool, and laze at marina café. Skip does more boat things, engineer returns for final tweeking of hot water tank. Crew water up. Getb off for Agni and possible rendezvous with Astra. Well, crew motored straight past Agni while skip flushing holding tank, so had to retrace course about a mile! Tried anchoring in usual spot but waved away by hire boat operator – worried his customers still learning and might bump us on way out from his pontoon. Uncommunicative Brit has the only good spot in bay, so move a cable NE to Tavernaless cove. Deep (30ft) but get good spot. All other boats leave at dusk. Dress for dinner and have beers on board as Jane opens cards/pressys. We were here for Jane`s BD last year too. Thinking of going ashore for meal when spot Astra steaming by. She sees us after much arm waving and hailing, turns hard to stbd and anchors inshore. Gang join us till too late to go ashore. Tales of their visit to Albania. They head off to go stern to taverna pontoon, we stay on board. Have tasty cold cooked chicken bought from AB sm before departing Gouvia. An interesting birthday. |
