Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 July Becalmed! Second day at Petriti, next day motor to anchorage in lee of Corfu Old Fort

Sun Depart Petriti 1030

Arrive Corfu (Kerkira) 1300 11nm M2.5

Two windless scorchers. Got to 36 degrees ashore at Petrit. Stifling ashore at Corfu too.

Saturday

Early Sat saw a few yachts vacate spaces in Petriti harbour, so motored in and grabbed one. Outer quay now has derelict looking Cacique and medium size fishing boats along side, so much less room for yachties this year. And the water tap on quay is broke! We wanted to fill tanks with decent fresh water before getting to Gouvia. Won`t run out, but need to fill sometime. First day off for a while. Too hot to do much so hide under cockpit bimini and read books. Head off along beach to cove to S, and interesting tavern situated in trees and shrubs. Busy with grocks of all nationalities who arrive by car. Evening starts with beers aboard friendly Brit neighbours, Footloose, a Prout 38. Treat eat ashore after.

Sunday

Surprised to get fresh bread ashore at minimarket (as Sunday).  Motor N to anchor in usual spot in lee of Corfu Old Fort. High season, so megga yachts now here. Pass Ice & chopper on way in – owned by Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov. 90m long, takes a max of 14 guests, and has up to 27 crew! Go ashore 1400. Hot! Get times of ferries to Erikoussa (islands to NW of Corfu) for post half term visitors. If space think could sneak in and fill with water. Take duck thro old fort moat, from S to N to recky Mandraki, little marina and home of two YCs. Looks v pleasant. Note all on seaward quay are bows too, as underwarter rocks would hit stern to rudders. Hot night. Afternoon f2 has gone. Music from near disco not too bad. Till v late, but better beat than last time. Swimmer arrives well after midnight, accompanied by safety boat and coastguard cutter (with blue flashin light). Much clapping when gets ashore at NASOK. Wonder where he or she has swam from?
