Sunday 25 May Walk to cove on E coast, motor (and a brief sail) to Nisos Atoko and stay the night anchored in pretty One House Bay

Depart Vathi 1330

Arrive One House Bay on Island of Atoko 1700 14nm 2.5hrsM 1hrS

Sunny morning, clouded over after lunch Not a breath then NW f3/4 for a while from 1600

Ithaki Mare (nee Gregorory`s) was quite adequate, and nearby. We like it here on quay in NNE of bay – some local fishing boats and the more intrepid liveaboards/bareboats – all the posh boats etc tie up right in town, over a km away. Jane found good shower at newish and attractive Captain Yiannis Hotel. Standard charge for a shower seems to now be 3euros. Skip keeps money for beer, and uses black bag instead. No one around so can wash sat on cockpit floor unclothed! Then a cuppa and beeroclock. That was yesterday. Today early breakfast and hike nearly an hour to pretty deserted cove Sarakinico on E coast. Beginning to feel Ithaki is our favourite Island (apologies to Kefalonia). Although Vathi was flattened by 1953 earthquake and largely rebuilt it has charm and appeal. Feels like a working town with quite a bit of tourism. Loads of walks and places to visit so would be good for landlubbers. Go shopping on way back from cove, but discover all closed as now Sunday afternoon! Decide ought to explore elsewhere (in fact revision from 8 years ago) so cast off, fill 2 gerrycans diesel at fuel berth  (2x18ltrs cost 54 friendly euros) and motor out in dead calm. Head N along coast 5nm to rekky petite Kiono. V pretty place – not been here before (even 8 years ago) will definitely return and stop a night, but today`s destination is One House Bay on E coast of uninhabited island of Atoko 5nm offshore. Large lump of an island (303m) sitting all by itself. Wind fills in on way so reach ENE last hour under just genny nearly 4knts. Shame clouded over. Anchor well in bay in 14ft. Two others anchored, two other yachts with long lines to shore, and two small fishing boats in really close (having a kip and sorting nets ready to go out for night). Strong gusts coming down from hills to windward but spade digs in well.  Wind dies after an hour. V peaceful night. Just 2 others remain. First night at anchor for 2014. Get txts saying Devon County Show washed out    - Saturday was cancelled – first time ever, and we’re having fun in the sun! V starry night. Have hazy recollection of someone snoring – not sure if skip or Jane!
