Title: Elevation to superyacht

Port Pendennis, Falmouth    50:09.12N  005:03.67W

2 October

Another great day's sailing, covering more than 70 nm, from Scilly to Falmouth, sees us rafted to a very posh superyacht on an entire pontoon of superyachts.  Ahead of us is a stunning, Cayman registered, 180 ft schooner (with 150ft main mast) and behind a 40m classic ketch.  Clearly we were placed here for a reason.  We could perhaps be the tender to one of them?   Our neighbour is a RN frigate, I assume it is here to guard us and the other superyachts.  Either that or its because Falmouth is a naval dockyard.  Our marina is Port Pendennis, wrapped around the amazing Falmouth National Maritime Museum and right by the town centre.  Together they provided a superb, much needed shower and equally superb seafood for dinner.

We left St Mary's before dawn, with just enough light to see the other boats and moorings and were soon sailing towards Land's End, on round the Lizard and through to Falmouth.  We sailed throughout, with some support from time to time from the engine - we needed to maintain an SOG of 6kts to get to Falmouth in daylight and the winds were just a touch light although from a perfect direction.  More AIS assisted dodging around the shipping lanes and exploring the benefits of MARPA (radar target monitoring) to work out what a few kamikaze fishing boats were up to.  Approaching Falmouth, our AIS screen filled with 'sharks'  - all pointing in the same direction (anchored) as we came right through the middle of Falmouth anchorage, full of tankers and large cargo ships.
