With our engine serviced and fuel tank full we set off at
noon from Kristiansand. Lovely inner lead with some bracing short
tacking. Weather forecast was good so we decided to skip Mandal and head round
Lindesness (southern tip of Norway and "notorious"). All was
looking great, sailing at 7 kts and making 5+VMG. Just as we rounded the
wind and sea picked up dramatically and we were soon in a F5-6 which built
steadily to a F7 with impressive seas. Just a little later we got a gale
warning by Navtex - shame they didn't transmit 2 hours earlier. Couldn't
get into our first haven - high winds and swell into a narrow passage - so went
onto Farsund, and arrived at 10pm and got a bow-to spot onthe guest pier.
Ann was very cosy (physically if not mentally) under the spray hood but I
was well marinated at the helm.
Lovely little fishing port - free guest haven complete with
free newspaper and fresh rolls delivered by town crier in full traditional
costume and a man delivered a weather forecast at 8.30am. Couldn't be
better.

After stroll around town we head for Egersund tonight
- around 40 miles and weather looks light and winds inthe right direction.
