We met up briefly with Tony and Chris of Waylander, they arrived at St Georges Grenada a couple of days before we were leaving. During their time with us, they decided to buddy boat with us to Venezuela and onto Cartegena. They bought all the charts and pilot books for the trip. We decided Cartegena for Christmas sounds good!

We managed to get away on Thursday for Trinidad, we were going to Tobago, but the watermaker packed up again so we decided the easiest, cheapest and quickest option was for us to take it to the makers in Trindad for repair. The forecast was good giving 15kts average wind speed and 6ft average seas. We set off at 8pm for an overnight sail in 15kts and 6ft seas, perfect --- until the wind picked up a couple of hours later. We then had 30kt winds and 10ft seas for about 7 hours, then the wind died to zero and the sea flattened to calm for 7 hours, so I suppose on average the weather forecaster was spot on ---- bastarddD!!!!!!!

On our arrival at Trinidad we had to pass through a narrow area called the Bocas, just as we were about to enter a squall blew up and it poured down, all visibilty was lost and we had to navigate by chart and radar. Fortunately the viz came back just as we entered. The photo is of me tired, soggy and wet, first time we've worn a jacket.

We decided not to go into Chaguarmas straightaway, instead we took the first anchorage 'Scotland Bay' This was a narrow inlet in green waters, it was just like entering a jungle creek. We anchored here overnight, the wildlife was brilliant, Pelicans, Vultures and Parrots flying and landing all around us. You could hear howler monkies in the trees too. We saw more wildlife here than all of the Windward Island chain put together.
