Women’s gossip:

We’re sailing down the coast of Baffin Island now. The winds have moderated and backed which makes the conditions a bit less lumpy. I’ve been enjoying the increase in greenery on the land and a few sandy coves makes the area look much like the outer Hebrides – except for the ice bergs. We stopped for a few hours in one of these – Ravenscraig Harbour – which was a welcome rest from the lumpy seas overnight. The whole area has already a much softer feel to it.

Already the cabin is noticeably warmer and my wash yesterday was quite tolerable. So that activity might become more frequent now!

I don’t feel so upset about turning back as I feel I had a good experience of what it is like to be navigating around the Canadian Arctic. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of finding our way through the sea ice. My biggest disappointment so far has been the lack of whales we have seen. Other than the one narwhale I saw in Pond Inlet I haven’t seen any whales since Nuuk in Greenland. Maybe there is still time for more sightings.
