Departing from Mackay after the water maker repair saw Carango on a broad reach on the port tack almost immediately. The wind was truly flukey within  minutes changing for a firm 15-20 knots down to 3 knots - so sailing motoring sailing motoring was the order of the day. Having been warned of a counter current we did not experience any at all.

Our destination was Shaw Island - soon other yachts were reporting whale sightings - we were dissapppointed to only see one i=and that quite far away.
The scenery on the islands is similar to parts of the highlands of Scotland

WHALE - amazing Vicky spotted an enormous Humpback whale and we were rewarded with a full 30 minute show of spectacular wing slapping and finally a dramatic full breach out of the water. Awesome display which we read was all about communication but we didn’t see who he was communicating with.
