Becalmed in the (for once) Pacific Ocean

There is something strange about being becalmed mid ocean. I think it is the quiet. It isn’t that there is no sound, the rigging is still clanging as Caramor rocks in the gentle swell even though Franco took all her sails down before the end of his watch, but there is a kind of background eerie peace.


Our first three days sail from Bora Bora have been pleasant though on the last we had westerly winds so Caramor was close-hauled.


We are heading towards Niue, formerly known as ‘Savage Island’ which sounds promising. It is the smallest nation on earth.


Oops, better go, the wind is back and the sails need hoisting.
