Title: Back on the Ocean Blue

39:14.38S 74:02.35W

1200 19 March.

Caramor is gently sailing over a tranquil ocean, doing about 4 knots in an 8 knot breeze on a broad reach. We are definitely in the Pacific. In the last few minutes I have seen two species of albatross, a shearwater and a storm petrel.

Yesterday (18 March) we signed out of Chile, said goodbye to Lucho, José, Walter, Jill from Mollymawk, and finally Jackie and Juliette from Cachoeira who set off, on time an hour and a half before us. The sudden arrival of ‘Desirée’, our fridge, meant fitting it, and buying and stowing extra food for the crossing to the Marquesas as we would no longer stop in Coquimbo, and some fresh foods that were not an option without her. So we were a little bit behind schedule.

We finally cast off at 1630 and motored down with the ebbing tide to the mouth of the river. On the way we waved to our Austrian friend Beate on Galadriel and stopped briefly at the anchorage at Isla Mancera. Here we came alongside Cheddar and Malulo and said goodbye to Jorge and Raúl. Raúl had just sailed back from Chiloe, so we were really pleased to be able to say a final trfarewell.

At 1900 we had just enough breeze to set sail. So begins our voyage across the vast Pacific Ocean. Only 5,000NM to go to our first landfall in the Marquesas.
