Title: Grytviken Regatta

54:16.9S 36:30.4W

Two weeks since we arrived in South Georgia and it is time to head north. From Ocean Harbour we sailed straight back to Grytviken, a good place to fill up with water, do the laundry, catch up with Hugh the Post Office Master, and call in on Sarah at the museum, who, generously always offers us coffee and delicious cake.

Grytviken

By chance it was the week-end of the Grytviken Regatta and there is no doubt, that when it comes to regattas, Grytviken, South Georgia has nothing to envy Cowes, Isle of Wight.

The Grytviken Regatta

The winning design was the New Zealand light weight catamaran made out of cardboard and duck-tape with a bin bag sail (items we have in stock in case we ever have to jury rig Caramor). The bright orange thing that looks like it could have competed in the Americas Cup capsized shortly after the start line. We were reassured that the fire extinguisher didn't sail very well and astounded that the pot of cocoa powder didn't come last!
