Michal who lives in Warsaw and arranges the printing of many of Pesda Press' books has correctly identified our inquisitive visitor as a juvenile night heron. A first day issue of Falkland stamps is winging its way all the way to Poland.

We asked a number of people here to help identify the bird and we were taken to a cliff near Gipsy Cove where several pairs are nesting. The adults have a long white plume sticking out the back of their head and are black and dark grey, very different to the young. Both adults incubate the eggs and feed the young. We didn't find out why they are called 'night' heron.
