Ko Tarutoa has some infrastructure, most of which seems to date from its use as a prison for political dissidents.  That is long gone and east coast of the island is an interesting sail although with the wind blowing 20-25 knots from the east the shelter behind small islands did not look very good.  We rounded the southern end and found an excellent protected anchorage with no swell and in 5 metres below the cliffs of Ko Panan.

Taken as we were leaving.  We anchored close under the cliffs and were well protected

If it had been cold, it would have been easy to think that we were in a British summer anchorage as it rained and gusted for all the time that we were here.
