Today we sailed north via Ko Hong which looked too busy and with the fine sailing wind that we had both sides were looking exposed.  This took us on 2nm north to anchor at Ko Pak Bia for lunch.

Ko Rok Bia is a delightful spot when the beach is not cluttered with longtail boats bringing day tours.  Note the distinctive” signature” mushroom shaped rock to the right

From Ko Rok Bia we sailed, with good wind north and west around the top of Ko Yao Noi where we spent New Year’s Eve 2004 with Andrew and Alice after the tsunami and past the anchorage at Ko Ku Du Yai which is between two hongs.  We used Ko Ku Du Yai during our charter in 2003.  It is beautiful anchorage especially if you have it to yourself; this time there was a boat anchored in the middle of the passage so we sailed on the extra mile to the ,larger anchorage at Ko Roi where there is a hong to explore in the morning.

When we arrived there was just a fine wooden schooner at anchor but as dusk fell a number of charter boats appeared out of the dusk having sailed over the bank to the west which we had considered too shallow – perhaps we will try this route in the future on a rising tide.
