Setting off at 0815 we motored through the passage between the Ko Rok’s passing the OCC yacht Chanty, Will and Karen who we first met in Awei, Vanuatu, in 2014 and last in New Zealand.  Position was held whilst we had a 5 minute catch up.  They were heading towards Phuket so we hope to see them again at some time in the next six weeks or so.  Clear of the islands we were able to set all sail and had a good fast sail for most of the 50 miles, the wind dropping only in the last hour.

Ko Raka Yai is the first bit of déjà vu.  The Gulf of Phuket is the first destination on our circumnavigation where we are retracing steps made in 2003 and 2004 when we were part of the Sunsail Owner’s scheme.  Ko Raka Yai has certainly been developed over the last 12 years and having taken up a vacant mooring we were happy stay on board especially as we are not too sure what the rules are about landing before clearing in.  The harbour was very busy with day trip boats from the Phuket but quietened down later, especially after the dive boat that spent an hour running a very noisy compressor departed to annoy someone else.
