This was a very busy day as we made our way across the Selat Strait from the Java Sea to the South China Sea.  The Selat Straits carry a great deal of traffic from Singapore to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.  We spent a happy time working out which ship had our name on it.  In the event there was only one 300 metre Chinese registered ship that caused us to alter course so that it avoided us; the other 25 or so did not cause a problem to them or us.

Overnight there were the usual fishing boats and the added excitement of thunder and lightning.  Large rain clouds were seen on the radar but mostly missed us.  The clouds seemed to have the benefit of providing wind to enable us to sail for 6 hours from 2200.  Daybreak saw us 25m from our destination and well placed to avoid the inshore hazards as we closed the land.

There are a number of anchorages off Tanjung Kelayang described in the book and having the palce to ourselves we were able to anchor right over spot “B” about 30m off the beach.  The scenery, as described in the book, is stunning with large granite boulders similar to the Baths on Virgin Gorda in the BVI’s and the St Pierre Rocks in the Seychelles.
