The really must do at Port Resolution is to visit the Mount Yasur volcano.  We had to wait a day as constant rain on Monday would have made the trip more hazardous – one day health and safety may catch up with this rare bit of volcano watching but until it does this is the chance to see and feel raw nature in all its power and glory.

After a 5 mile (45 minute) drive over rough unmade tracks and a walk up the last few hundred metre you arrive at the rim of the crater, hearing the occasional roar of explosions below and the tremors.

And seeing explosions of molten lava

But the real fun starts after dark:

Definitely one of life’s great experiences.

The next blog entry, Passage to Erromango has a photograph of the volcano from the sea to the north east.
