High points of the day:

            We kept the cruising chute up for 24 hours, despite a particularly good broach at 0330 just after I had taken over the watch from the Mate.  Fortunately I was sitting next to the winch and was able to release the sheet which restored some semblance of order. The cause seemed to be a random gust on the back of a squall.

            Bacon and avocado rolls for lunch.

            Coming up to midday the squalls cleared and the wind settled down to allow us to track our required course to the Marquesas once more.

            At 1900 passing the 1,000nm to go mark.

Not so elevated points in the day

            Overnight we both had a series of squalls going through, as in 20+, all of which had the effect of altering the wind strength and direction so that constant adjustments of course were required to keep the boat moving under the cruising chute.

            Occasional excitement – see broach above.  Flapping sails whilst the boat is brought back under control have an ability to make any situation seem much worse than it actually is.

            Enough rain to be a nuisance and not enough to wash off the decks.  The morning had once again a decidedly Highland appearance.  As in “If you cannot see down the Glen it is raining and of you can it is about to start”.
