Passage Run – 13.9nm – 13nm over the ground

As we had “done” Castine yesterday and there was no enthusiasm for another trip ashore we headed out in the morning for the next venue.  The specified anchorage of The Bow Cat lies to the south of the causeway joining North and South Deer Islands.  To the north of the causeway is the Eggemoggin Reach.  With a forecast of a boisterous south westerly and The Bow Cat being both shallow and tight we went for the Eggemoggin option, shown by our track in and out in purple.  This gave us a much quieter night for the cost of a short walk to the beautiful home of our evening’s hosts, Phil and Linda Glazer.  The voting with your keel made it for six boats on our side and 5 on the other, two of which decided that the trip ashore was too hazardous in the conditions at party time, which was shame.

A further excitement of this route was passing under the Eggemoggin Bridge.  With a minimum clearance of 25.9 metres and our air draught of 21 metres there was lots of room; but it did not feel like it from deck level.

The evening was a BYO BBQ and was a great success and an excellent way to finish off the rally for those who had survived to the end.
