We were away at 0900, on time to catch a favourable tide North up the Chesapeake.  We managed to get out of Crab Creek without disturbing the bottom, not as easy as it sounds especially as it was at low water.

The wind was not doing anything in particular so I am afraid it was all down to diesel and we fetched up in the Sassafras River just before 4 o’clock.  We were last here 2 years ago in the company of Andrew and Celia on Alice.  It seem rather strange without them.  The Northern part of the Chesapeake has lots of rivers and creeks.  Most of them are very shallow, the Sassafras is an exception and provides a reasonably sheltered anchorage in order to wait for a suitable tide through the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal (C & D).
