We have had a number of long term milestones on our trip.  These usually arise when people asked us before departure where we were going.  The answer to our summer plans was to cross to the USA, attend the OCC Rally in the Chesapeake and sail up the east coast, perhaps as far as Boston.  Well today was Boston achieved.

There was wind but of course it was blowing directly from Boston.  We decided to sail west for 10nm towards Plymouth and then motor north into the wind.  For a new arrival the entrance to Boston is fraught with rocky islets and reefs.  It is all well marked however and we had a wonderful sail in towards the city.

On advice gleaned from the Cruising Association Blue Water Section we headed for Dorchester Bay, South Boston to anchor off the South Boston Yacht Club.

Dinghying ashore we were met and made very welcome by a number of members including Brandon, the Commodore who presented us with a Club burgee and granted us the use of all of the Club facilities.  The Club is the oldest established yacht club in USA and whilst sailing per se is not the sole activity these days it has a strong membership and beautiful premises.  The members are very hospitable; UK visitors are somewhat of a novelty.

The view from the top floor over the anchorage shows Caduceus in the distance.  Depth is an issue, but we found somewhere to anchor among the moorings that gives us about 0.5m at low water springs.  There is an excellent Club launch service which means we will be able to get ashore dry and tidy!

To complete the Mates joy there was a dog to befriend.
