We went back to Las Palmas from Tenerife, as the marina in Tenerife was subject to an awful surge
when the wind blew from the south.

With low pressure systems travelling west to east just north of the islands we were stuck in the Canaries
for two weeks.  And there are certainly worse places to have to wait for the wind.

The old part of Las Palmas had some interesting buildings and parks.....

...and an exhibition of bronze statues.

Plenty of Christmas decorations and dioramas.

We hired a car and toured the mountains.  Here we look over the east side of the island.  When we
got to the west and most scenic part, it was blowing a gale and raining so we did not get any pictures
on that side of the island unfortunately.

Hairpin bends abounded.

and we were up in the clouds at times

A caldera with green fields.

Last get together at the Sailors Bar, as most of us left on the morning of Saturday the 11th. with the
expectation that we might have to go  down to the Cape Verde islands instead of straight to the
Caribbean.

The last supper was a truly great paella, a wonderful last taste of Spain.

We had a 7 day passage to the Cape Verde Islands, covering 950 nautical miles on the log.  We had
24 hours of strong south westerly winds, 24 hours of no winds, and a couple of days when we had
quite good westerly and north westerly winds.  It got progressively warmer as we went south.

Arrival in the Cape Verdes, time for some R & R. and a wait for The Trade winds to kick in.
