Approaching Barra Airport

We were back on Bliss at 8pm . Quite an adventure getting here, that's the upbeat way of saying "it was an ordeal," Up at 5am, flight to Glasgow on time, 2 hour delay before leaving Glasgow, so missed our ferry from Barra to South Uist, caught later ferry, then.... no bus back to Lochboisdale, 10 miles away and, no phone signal; marooned! The ferry port is miles from anywhere. Fortunately if Chris stood on the bench in a corner of the shed, which is the unmanned ferry terminal building, he got a phone signal and called the marina manager who organised a taxi for us. We started walking, then stopped to admire view, taxi drove past us! ...I ran back down to ferry terminal and met him coming back, he was not going to get away again!
Taxi driver turned out to be the most delightful man; would have been married 30 years (same as us), in August, had his wife, aged 54, (same as me) not tragically died a year ago, has 3 sons, (same as us) ....stop getting morose Helen!
We stopped at the co-op on route to the marina. Our taxi driver knew everyone in the car-park so was happy to spend 15 minutes chatting while we did something of a supermarket dash. I love the Co-op, it sells local produce, so we came away with local scallops, langoustine, salmon, and, I can hardly believe this; the woman at the checkout hails from........Brightlingsea, where Chris grew up, she used to own a little shop called "The Shipwreck", I have many a charming gift from there, purchased by my boys whilst staying with their grandparents. What a bonkers day, it's good to be back!

Sittin' on the dock of the Bay

Not that I would have missed a single second of the 12 days we had at home, what a joy, what a privilege, what a family, The Cooks + The Alexanders (add a few Oxfords and a whole bunch of great friends) =. Quite a team.

Two Mrs Cooks , there is a common myth that there is such a thing as too many of us!
