The End of the English Channel

We did wait out the last gales and had a couple of days in the small old port town of Treguier. Tom and I went to a fantastic garden, visited the cathedral, and its cloisters, and found a micro-brewery which was just one room of 7 kinds of amazing beers. I got in a car for the first time in 3 weeks with Klaus and Christina (a German couple also sailing an Albin Vega and on much the same route as we are) for an afternoon's inland tour of this beautiful part of Brittany. Interesting 12th century churches, elegant half-timbered houses and a gorgeous coastline (all in cloud and wind until the very end of the afternoon). It's called the rose granite coast and when out at sea the astonishing formations can look like rather menacing giant teeth. Says Tom.

We've had two pre-dawn pontoon leavings, lots of rain yesterday but a much brighter day today. Wind has been so light that we've had to motor a lot, sadly.

It's hard to believe that we are still sailing in the 'channel' but tomorrow we round the most western bit of France and sail pretty much due south. Brest will be our next stop where we pick up Bill and hope for our Bay of Biscay window, to cross in the next week or so.

Learning to live in a small predictable place, with routine and adventure mixed together is fun. A week ago I wasn't so sure but I think I can hang in there. And I didn't wear my fleece yesterday. It's taking much longer than we expected but we're still bound for Spain.
