  Agra to Ranth

Mob (our driver) picked us up at eight for the one hundred and seventy mile journey to Ranthambore – fingers crossed for tigers in the National Park. Shortly after we left the sky went very dark, the wind really picked up gusting enough to bring trees down and big dollopy rain, unseasonal (rains don’t start until June) and unpredicted. We had very little in the way of motorway but en route we saw just about everything barring locusts – cows, buffalos, pigs, camels, horses, dogs, cats, squirrels, many, many small towns – traffic chaos in some to the point a policeman gave up trying to direct and stomped off.

At ten past nine we stopped at Fatehpur Sikri for an hour and a half bimbling around the Fort and the palaces. Back on the road after really enjoying our stop and dodging the rain more by luck than judgement, a massive teaching hospital, a field full of new tractors, we had people washing in a river, a camel appearing beside us at a traffic junction, heavily laden trucks and tractors, stopping for a cow to cross the road, an empty river bed, a bus with a puncture, sadly so much rubbish and so much more, by the time Beds settled in to bed at four we were all bushed and very pleased to be away from honking and hooting that does get very wearing indeed. Supper in our new digs should have come with a fire hazard warning despite asking for everything to be mild....... early to bed as we have to be up at five-ish for our first safari at six. Stuff we saw..............
