Final Kathmandu Bimble, Back from the Tower

After the sad tower destroyed in the 2015 earthquake we headed back into the crowds. I got Bear to pose under this set of electric wires as the lowest one only cleared his head by a couple of inches. We smiled at a young lad who was clearly out of his depth with a electrickery problem. I think Bear has a thing for steering me down narrow streets.

At the end of this street we had a laugh getting through the lumps, people and tools. Not a hard hat in sight, oooo and where’s the orange and white tape set along the beacons....... The poor, hard-working wheelbarrow needed a dignified burial.

A very smart hardware shop and a traditional wear tailor.

Makes sense for a shrine in the sewing area to be made of buttons..... Oo, deep joy, a tiled lane, but still the motorbikes to dodge. At the other end, a more traditional shrine.

A street scene, so Kathmandu.

Each shop now became skinny and full to brimming. An intriguing alley with very elderly wooden beams. It seems such a shame that these hard working people have to strive to stand still. A stiff breeze could take down this partition screen let alone the permanent risk from earthquake, monsoon, freezing winters and summers in the forties like today.

In amongst the debris and dust are real treasures.

So pleased we didn’t have to trust this dental surgery if the Before and After pictures are anything to go by.

Streets, electrickery and mud. Our abiding memories of the city.........

We met and chatted to Joaquin (Swedish) and Lulu (Australian), this lovely couple met in November on Bali and since then have set out on life’s great adventure, we wish them luck.

Time for us to head back to our digs and pack for the morrow. We leave this timeless mixing pot of a city, full of colour, aromas, nationalities and characters.
