Monkey
Temple
Our taxi took us through crazy
traffic from the Cable Car and dropped us in the car
park next to the temple with a rather pretty
house in the background. Bear paid our one
pound thirty entry.
Swayambhu
Mahachaitya, a World Heritage Site but known locally as Monkey Temple was
shadowed with masses of bunting.
We soon saw loads of the friendly chaps.
This chap sat quietly and held his own hands and feet.
Up some steps under loads more prayer-flag bunting.
Our first ‘sentry
box’ shrine, a bit sad and lots of rubbish.
A rather lovely
stupa.
We watched this little chap, he tried to scale a wall falling twice and
decided to take the stairs instead.
From here, we had quite a good view of
Kathmandu valley.
The hairdresser.
Then we were photo
bombed.
Then a bit of
kerfuffle.
We passed more shrines and headed to
the prayer wheels.
Then to the golden
ones.
AT the top of these steps is Whochen Thokjay Choyaling Monastery – established in 1915.
On the way back down we saw some great
electrickery.
Question. Did we want to
climb up to the main part of the stupa. A unanimous
NO.
A very sad sight,
a chap showing the scourge of
plastic.
As we drove away we could see the
main stupa.
ALL IN ALL I MAY BE TEMPLED
OUT
GREAT BUNTING BUT OTHERWISE
