We take a side road back to the shops and love this house (complete with wires – sorry Colin).

Japan's first permanent capital was established in the year 710 at Heijo, the city now known as Nara (奈良). As the influence and political ambitions of the city's powerful Buddhist monasteries grew to become a serious threat to the government, the capital was moved to Nagaoka in 784.

Nara is located less than one hour from Kyoto and Osaka. Due to its past as the first permanent capital, it remains full of historic treasures, including some of Japan's oldest and largest temples.

As of the 1st of April 2017, the city has an estimated population of 359,666, 3,000 are registered as foreigners, of which Koreans and Chinese are the two largest groups with about 1,200 and 800 people respectively.

Big trees, small footprints and a shrine along the way.

A quiet bustle but really not sure how this once proud warrior feels about Halloween tinsel around his neck.

What never ceases to amaze us is how many shops have a familiar feel and look. Japan is our fifty-third country (eight leaving Beez Neez resting somewhere), the only real difference is the currency we carry and the app on the mobile phone to work it out.

Must eat in here tomorrow, just to say we did. Monks on the Moon have a great selection of the foods we like.

We cross to our alley leaving the shopping centre behind us.

Looking up we don’t know what this lady is having done but the halo-thingy was whizzing around her head. Love the need for straight lines here, my marginal OCD gets a kick out of Japanese washing lines too.

Love this bookshop, we bet the owner knows where everything is.

Opposite our digs is a beautiful cake shop. Dangerous, but resisted today as we are clutching our chicken and yoghurt combo, keen for an early night, tired after the last, long but very enjoyable few days.
