A busy welcome committee. Bali Bird Park, Batubulan in the Gianyar Regency (not far from our B+B of last night) covers an area of nearly five acres, boasts three lakes and houses more than a thousand birds representing two hundred and fifty species – the biggest collection of Indonesian birds including the critically endangered Bali starling. There are two walk-in aviaries and other birds roam free.

No sooner than we got going than we realised all the enclosures were in tip top condition, the birds had plenty of greenery and looking at their breakfast ate a varied and healthy fresh diet with plenty of nuts and seeds. Not a single bird had mite, feather pluck and during the day we happened to see a Guinea fowl with a slight limp and within minutes a worker had put in a report.

The incubators in their purpose built house were immaculate as were the information boards. Bali Bird Park aims to be a “Centre of Excellence” for the breeding of Birds of Paradise and Bali Starling. The best of the rest........
