The view we woke to this morning (Komodo Island), sadly, no dragons on the beach.

Wishful Thinking and Matilda left early to put in a day hop. We had a slack day and left after lunch at a quarter past two for the two hundred and ten mile journey direct to Lombok. We had the bay to ourselves until a local tour boat settled for the night.

Our final look back toward Komodo Island.

Ahead the volcanic island of Sangeang.

As it was still daylight we decided to go between the island and the mainland – treated to seven knots as the current whizzed us through.

Multi Spirit pottered by at a sedate eight and a half knots. Just a small chum coming in at 91 metres in length, her beam 14 metres and draught 4.5 metres en route to Reo wherever that is.

Some rally boats will put in loads of day hops as they abhor overnighters, we find the reverse far more tiring – up at four or six, all day at sea keeping a close eye out for FADS (fish attracting or aggregating devices), whereas we go quite a way offshore (twelve miles) and get a game of backgammon and some Tri-ominoes (Bear’s current favourite because I’m in the lead, I hope to address that fact very soon....... Huh) until the skipper gets his head down for some afternoon Zzzz’s. I had the company of KM Egon as she went by a quarter of a mile off at 13.9 knots en route to Lembar. This passenger ferry measured in at 94 metres, her beam 16 metres and her draught 4.2.

Sangeang looked gorgeous.

Behind, one cloud was lit in the sunset.

We enjoyed an uneventful night with precious little wind and at six I went to bed leaving Bear with a couple of ships on the horizon.........

After a quick dogleg around a reef we headed in to the anchorage. A cheeky tour boat cut between Wishful Thinking and Beez Neez.

The three Gili Islands away to our right (our next stop just five miles away) and the huge landscape of Bali visible on the horizon.

A hearty greeting from a local outrigger.

No sooner than the anchor was set at eleven we saw this laden local. We were told later that he was carrying empty bottles.

Medana Bay Marina, a term to be loosely applied has room for six boats and a few mooring buoys. They hold the reins on the whole bay and for the first time in Indonesia we paid seven fifty anchoring fee with the use of the dinghy dock – another loose term. Sadly, Continuum were robbed of their outboard engine when the lock was away at a welders (makes you wonder if a quick phone call informed the baddies, as we think happened to us re the fake collectors of Komodo National Park fees........after we heard some babbling on the radio we were pursued within minutes).

The marina boast conference facilities, hotel and bar serving cold Bintang and wonderful food. We went no further.

ALL IN ALL A VERY PRETTY JOURNEY
