To Escape River

Four o’clock this morning, anchor up in the pitch black, heavens opened and off we went following Bamboozle out from our shallow nest, we began todays sixty seven mile journey.

Our only chum just before seven was Harmonia Malta.

Daytime colour on the chartplotter, we enjoyed the name – Pudding Pan Hill.

Up next was Bushy Island, literally a small island with some bushes.

Such a shame it was so hazy, we missed a good picture of the Red Hills (red with bauxite).

By a quarter to three this afternoon we began to see the Escape River entrance. A couple of shallow bits going down to two point four metres below until it rose again to ten. Rollers from the side in twenty knots of wind, wouldn’t fancy this in really heavy weather – spoke too soon as the heavens opened, yet again.

Once in we were treated to a rainbow.

We by-passed the pearl farm buoys and settled in three and a half metres, wind blowing a Hooley but we were snug as bugs in the conservatory. I won a handsome game of backgammon but lost badly at Mexican train dominos. Tomorrow sees us at the northernmost point on the mainland, but first we must get through the Albany Passage that can run five knots against - if you time it badly, from there we’ll nip round the corner to anchor. Looking forward to our penultimate journey in Australia and very excited to be heading round Cape York.
