To Tin Can Marina over the Wide Bay Bar

I had a smashing two till six watch listening to a period romance, made a nice change from murder mystery. Just before bedtime the sun promised a pretty special sunrise.

I actually saw some crepuscular rays.

I went for a short sleep and emerged to hear Bear logging in with Tin Can Rescue. They advised us to go a hundred metres north of our two waypoints, wished us well and asked us to let them know when we had reached Inskip Point.

Our actual view.

We entered the ‘mad mile’, the waves quite friendly away to our left. Beez didn’t have less than 4.8 metres below her and nothing fell off shelves.

Another boats experience and ours.

Through to Inskip Point and a happy Bear.

The depth settled to ten metres below us and we kept our eyes open for two people on the spit.

There they were, Jim and Pam had got up really early to wave as we passed. Then they drove to the marina to wait for us, we first met in Agadir, Morocco, again in the Cape Verde Islands and the last time was in Trinidad. We were all excited about meeting again and cannot wait to catch up.

Yet another vast area of protected water that the First Fleet could have easily described as very suitable to set up a colony. We saw a big anchorage, then the entrance to Tin Can Bay.

We could now see the marina in the distance and followed the well marked route in through a mooring field.

Our final corner and the Tin Can Recue Service.

Around the first line of boats and diagonally there was Jim taking our picture and Pam. A cup of tea later and we were scooped up after Beez was settled and Bear had visited Linda in the office. Half an hour away at Rainbow Beach we immediately felt at home. Our hosts were due to supper with friends and neighbours – Walter and Vivienne, Jim rang to cancel and we were invited straightaway. Time for a walk on the beach before becoming gate-crashers.

ALL IN ALL A VERY ENJOYABLE TRIP ENDING AT PAM AND JIM’S
