New Years Eve
2014
Settled at six on Sheer
Tenacity with Rod and Mary – our hosts, Steve and Chris –
Scott-Free and Beez house guests, Rod and Brenda – State of
Mind and Sheer house guests. Rod presented us with the plan of the evening.
We began with strawberry daiquiris
then cheese on sticks and by the time we had worked our way through the salmon on rye bread and the stuffed red
peppers we were all in need of a rest. Forty minutes grace on the
timetable and loads of giggling. It never ceases to amaze us how such feasts are
created in the smallest of kitchens and every trimming and decorum is
followed.
Over wines and drinks we watched as
Rod fired up the BBQ, within a very short time out came the sausages. Usual on
the left and the amazingly meaty and very tasty Boerewors,
bor-re-wors,
or as I call them Boar War sausages. They are a type of sausage popular
in South African
cuisine and due
to the numbers of South Africans who have made New Zealand their home have made
them readily available in the supermarkets. The name is derived from the Afrikaans words boer ("farmer")
and wors
("sausage"). Boerewors must contain at least ninety per cent meat -
always containing beef, as well as lamb or pork or a mixture of lamb and pork.
The other 10% is made up of spices and other ingredients. Not more than 30% of
the meat content may be fat.
We were called downstairs to help
ourselves to the most delicious lamb, potatoes, kumara, mushrooms, salads and
wine of every colour. Filled to bursting I was given a very rare and amazing
honour. To unveil Handsome of Belize. Going back to
January, Rod and Mary were our first critics when having to choose ten pictures
to put forward to the Royal Photographic Society and we successfully brought
back our Licentiate – LRPS, own blog in May. We brought the mounted pictures
back to show these good people and cunningly asked for their favourite. Handsome
of Belize then became an ideal Christmas pressie and serves as a tiny way to say
a very big ‘thank you’.
Chatter,
laughter and fun, then we had to squeeze in brandy snap with
hokey pokey ice cream. Now for the semi-serious call
from Rod to go outside, toast in hand to watch the
fireworks.
We watched the Russell fireworks and toasted in the New Year. Our wishes
for 2015 to our children and grandbabies, the safety of Beez. Safe winds and a
following sea to our fellow cruisers and cheers to friends
everywhere.
Back inside after party poppers
Brenda produces glow sticks, lots of banging and
waggling followed. Bear joined his together and made a
necklace, don’t ask I didn’t. Rod found an
orifice or two for his............
More antics from our Pocahontas look-alike, all too much for Chris who immediately brightened when the shots appeared.
QF,
Baileys on one side and Midouri – melon cocktail on the other, became the firm
favourite. Our host Rod disappeared downstairs and
the blue cheese aroma was certainly enough to confirm that it wasn’t for me.....
Glow sticks became creative and Chris put her lips to a Texas Ranger.........
One side of
the table looked quite well behaved, the
other........Rod came up with an amazing cheese board complete with
strawberries.
Time for us party
animals to thank our hosts and meet the challenge of getting into Baby
Beez.
ALL IN ALL SMASHING EVENING
