What a way to a Saturday, with an egg event. Bears were both show stoppers.

Time for a few days off, swimming, and exploring ashore.

The island is owned by the King who leases it to Big Mama who in turn is very yacht friendly. We paddled in the shallow water. The tide was out exposing dead coral, which was incredibly hot.

A baby barracuda practiced his stalking position.

We watched Dolphin of Leith hoist their much repaired main sail, hand painted by the school children of Niue Island. They left under a strange looking sky, shortly after, Waka Irie followed. Their plan is to stop on Minerva Reef two hundred and fifty miles away and wait for a weather window, for the remainder of the journey to New Zealand. We may catch them up, or see them Opua. We wish both boats Fair Winds and Following Seas.

We spent the afternoon laying in the shallow water chatting. I swam back to Beez, we showered and headed in for supper.

We watched the children playing as we waited for our food.

The menu may be limited but mahi mahi for Bear and cheeseburger for me (reversed on Sunday) hit the spot perfectly.

Beez looked handsome in the late afternoon sun.

We watched the sun go down and headed home – I may say I had a very successful time and won at backgammon, upword, sequence and rummikub. Quadrupel Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Don’t you be growling now..... Grrrrr.

On Monday we were going across the bay to Nuku’alofa to shop, internet and book a hire car to explore the mainland. Yet another Bank Holiday, so we stayed put knowing most places would be closed. We headed to Big Mamas and met Alex, David and Daniel, visiting from Australia and acting as rugby referees. Lovely to sit and chat over a few cold ones.

A more unusual shot of Bear until he bobbed up.

The boys went to check out the wreck. Alex goes off first, followed by David and then Daniel

The locals go for ‘splash’ as a measure of a good entry.

Alex dives and it looks as if Bear is going to catch him, meanwhile David goes for something very balletic as Bear continues to wave.

Sadly, everyone has to make a dash for the ferry.

The busy little ferry goes several times a day.

CP Wreck Fire 010

Tuesday came and went with chores and a fire boat stood by for a while as one of the wrecks caught fire in the heat.
