ANOTHER ONE THAT GOT AWAY!
Just lost yet another "favourite" lure to another monster from the deep (along with entire fishing line again)!
Day 4 of our passage to Fakarava Atoll in the Tuamoto's, had to slow down to make our entrance tomorrow morning at slack water (just as the tidal flow in and out of the atoll changes), we have heard very good reports of the lagoon and importantly the entrance to it plus Henry's parents sailed there some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. It is some 28 miles long so we expect to be there a few days and will probably anchor at the top and the bottom. Have found and booked a lady selling fresh fruit and GREEN vegetables including lettuce and tomatoes which we have not been able to get since the Galapagos!!
Ayesha is behaving well and the sail repairs (new sails on the way from UK) are holding up, we have chosen Fakarava as our first stop in the archipelago as we can get fuel. We were concerned that should we not be able to sail 'cos of sails failure or unco-operative winds we needed to top up diesel to ensure we could motor all the way through to Tahiti and of course we now have been able to sail all the way! We can still use the 250l of diesel on order to top up the tanks, even though sailing we still need to run generator to recharge batteries, run watermaker, cook with microwave, heat the water.
Josh has had the most exciting night watch with a squall last night where the wind touched 40 knots, but he had plenty of notice it was coming through observing it on the radar and with next to no front sail out and very little mainsail we were still doing 8 knots!
