Hi from the rolly Pacific!
Day 6 of our passage and thought we finally had the Trades with some excellent sailing this past 24 hours but no the wind died again two hours ago! We had such a great passage down from Panama to The Galapagos we assumed (foolishly we now realise) that was how this next part of the Pacific would be ie smooth downwind sailing but it has been on the beam or even slightly upwind and much more of the same is forecast. So yesterday we pulled the twin headsail down (what a workout that was especially for Josh and Henry clipped on and bounced around at the front of the yacht) and it is now resting in what is normally our front guest cabin!
Life on board has now got into a routine of 3 hour watches (so 3 hours on and 9 hours off)eating and sleeping, some reading, alot of chatting and all mucking in one way or another with the cooking which is somewhat challenging because of the disturbed seas, we were though the first two nights able to eat at the table in the cockpit which is always very pleasant. We are all losing weight with the constant exercise (even just keeping your balance) David and I are developing "washboard'ish" stomachs and with the very high humidity here I am convinced we are also evaporating some of the weight off!
Most nights there are quite a few birds around the boat particularly when we are having to motor, the green starboard (right hand one for non sailors) seems to attract tiny squid to the surface and quite a few get dropped on our decks by the birds and we have to prise their dried out bodies off and then clean off the dead squid profile marks on the teak!!
Well the good news is only another two weeks to go to reach Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas!
Trust this finds everyone well.
