Ayesha II
Wed 9 Aug 2017 04:17
18496 kilometres from London!

We arrived in Neiafu Vavau Tonga Monday morning, having just crossed the Dateline we basically lost Sunday! (We are now 12 HOURS AHEAD of the UK). Ultimately we had very strong conditions the last 18 hours with winds of 30 knots plus but with both sails very reduced Ayesha was brilliant, fast but steady.

First impressions are "frontiers town", crumbly round the edges but the people are delightful. Most of the men of course wear skirts out here not trousers, the officials found their skirts made climbing on board very difficult!
We shall stay here probably until Tuesday, we are on a good mooring buoy near the town and it's facilities so why rush off. Henry and Josh are off swimming with the whales on Friday, the main tourism attraction here.
Weather has turned very cold (28 C) because of the strong southerly winds (Antarctic direction) locals are saying the coldest it has been for over 20 years!
