It’s now 4 pm and we have fuelled up and signed out with the customs at Seydisfjordur. An Industrial town, but full of welcome and is the sole ferry port in Iceland. Once a week a ferry plies between Bergen, Lervik, Torshavn and Seydisfjordur. It has a huge mountain at the head of the fjord and the town nestles below in a secure and scenic fjord.

The Harbour master was waiting for us at the Yacht Dock. He offered help with fuel and the supermarket if we needed it. We explained our need to sign out and leave quite smartly, so he called the Customs Official on our behalf.

Customs arrived within 5 minutes of being called and it took just 2 minutes to complete the paperwork. We then had a chat about walking in the Hornstrandir. Our official is a great enthusiast and says he’s been hiking there at least 20 times, He also likes to go off-piste skiing up there in the spring.

We moved to the next dock to find the Harbour Master again waiting for us at the fuel pump, and they kindly let us pay our fuel bill with all the remaining Icelandic cash that we had. As we left we called to the Harbour Master on the shore, “see you next time,” and were rewarded with a big smile and a thumbs up.

Now bound for the Faeroes, which are about 260 miles. About 48 hrs if the weather cooperates.
