Alarms went off at 7:15 with the intention of getting up and going but a consensus of just one more snooze meant proceedings got under way by just after 8.

First task was to try and fill up with diesel on the opposite pontoon. The manoeuvring went without hitch in the mirror calm water but the same can not be said of the automated fuel pumps, none of which (there are three) was playing ball, either rejecting the card straight away or accepting payment but the pump not working, grr.

Frustrated, we set off anyway. The forecast, which was for light wind, is very much correct and the engine provided 90% of the forward drive. For occasional respites from the donkey humming away we spent the odd five minutes fishing, with little success. By lunchtime the situation was mostly the same except for a pilot whale doing a pass by. To pass the time James is reading an educational book about olive groves entitled extra virgin while Peter has the excitement of Brok (13th edition, Fe ).

By 8 o’clock we were starting to go round the peninsular near Snaefell, still with light winds. We are aiming for Ólafsvík which we may hope to reach in the early hours. Tomorrow we shall re-attempt topping up with fuel and water.

Yesterday’s cod was used in a very successful fish pie with secret ingredient in the white sauce: Vermouth.
P.S. Plum please remember to order the red Bountys!
