The sun is shining and the sea and wind have gone down so it’s very pleasant, albeit rolly. We contrived to swap the #1 reef, which we’d fixed in the Azores, with the #2 so were able to first unroll some of the main from 3 reefs to 2, then let out some yankee, to full yankee, to all plain sail over the course of the night. We’re now on a broad reach with the yankee poled out to port. We gather from the forecasts we’re now getting from Niton that it was indeed windy in the Channel last night. We spoke on SW with Jon and he said there was a gale even in Bedford and it ‘felt like March’.

In addition to it getting colder and the days longer we can tell that we’re getting closer to Europe as there’s more shipping passing us, but nothing too close for comfort. We’re still 450 miles from Lizard and it’s sure to get denser as we approach.
