We have spent a week at the Iate Clube do Espirito Santo who have been very welcoming. Vitoira has done much to make Brazil less bewildering and foreign since it's a thoroughly modern and civilised place and so much more relaxing than Salvador. It's perhaps for that reason not quite as 'authentic' but we have enjoyed our time here.

The only bad bit has been the evening rains which are torrential; not that the rain itself is an issue but the fix to the deck leak proved much better but not 100% effective and water seeped into the switch panel again, this time ruining both the battery monitor and the generator control panel. I suppose we don't really need either but it feels poor seamanship not to have all in 100% working order. One other minor excitement was discovering that the gas bottle we had refilled in Cape Verde had been filled with 6.6 kg of LPG although they only charged for 5 kg as that's its capacity. ie it was very over-filled which is a bit of a hazard. We thus transferred some to the now empty 4.5 kg Calor gas bottle - a first for us and we have learnt how to do bottle - bottle transfers which was interesting.

We are now off to Buzios in the state of Rio de Janeiro - about 200 miles - so are setting out in the late afternoon so that we should arrive in daylight after 2 nights at sea. Hopefully not too many fishing boats will frighten us at night. Buzios is a holiday town, made famous by Brigitte Bardot believe it or not! But it's also the home of the Brazilian Olympic sailing team and this coming weekend is supposed to be a big one for regattas etc. We will post more from there and some pictures of Vitoria.
