831 miles to go

A warm dawn found us better rested this morning following better sleep 'off watch' than Sunday evening - the ocean was much less confused. The crew steering rota is working well and we are not finding the additional concentration too taxing - but it is much easier when the moon is out giving us a clear view of our sails (after midnight at the moment)

Today we saw our first whale! Unfortunately it was diving and swimming in the other direction so we are not even sure what type it was. Three crew saw it (its dorsal fin and tail) and confirmed the sighting so in the log book it went

What has surprised us is the amount of yellow weed that is floating on the water - in long streaks it forms lanes in the ocean and along with large islands . Its like yellow florets floating on the surface clumped together. One for Google when we arrive. Boy have we missed Google and Wikipedia! But this has allowed lots of crew waffle that will never be substantiated

Another day today of not seeing any other craft - not even on AIS or radar. If it wasn't for the noon SSB radio check and email we would be totally out of touch with the world. As it is we only know the football and ashes scores and that Prince Harry is engaged............bliss (except for the cricket)

One negative is that we have run out of builders tea and have gone through industrial quantities at every watch change. Decaff versions have been introduced - we probably shouldn't have let on

All being well we hope that these are now our last nights (last Wednesday etc.,)at sea.....starting to dream of the rum punch and a cold beer or four - along with a launderette!
