I hope I`m not being optimistic by calling today day 4 - we did set off at 13.00 on Sunday 19 ?

Well so far loads has happened from our action packed start with strong winds and turbulent seas to flat calm and glassy seas. However, it is amazing how we seem to keep ourselves busy.  As you can imagine the watch system throughout the night does take a great deal of time to get used to,  as those ho have done night shifts will understand. We have got ourselves into a good routine during the day, doing our task, sailing the boat and sleeping as required.
Paul, David,
William and Jane clubbed together and bought Associate a beautiful (hope that` the correct adjective to use) Zeiss Sextant. We did explain to Jane that this was not a Sex Tent and the different mirrors we purely for navigation purposes....... Paul has been a master of wisdom and has instructed us all in how to use it. He came well prepared with all the conversion tables and test papers. Chris is thrilled, as he hopes to be able to sign off his Astral Navigation Qualification following our voyage (RYA Yachtmaster Ocean).
Another essential part of long distant sailing is the sweep stake - we didn`t stoop so low as to who was going to have the first poo but we have got far more intellectual bets on a) How many orange juices will be left b) total number of ships, inc competitors we will see...... most miles travelled each day , least distant travelled....... you`ve got the picture. The prize is the glory of getting it right or a  carton of orange Juice. Whichever is more valuable!! The joke of that came from the fact that we over catered big time on the orange juice - double quantities all round!!
Now to our sailing over last 24 hrs - we turned the engine off at 10.00 yesterday evening and it has been off for most of the day. The wind has been light and variable - now it is NNE 5-7kn  due to increase a little throughout the night.
There was a meaty squall this morning which did not last too long but washed the decks beautifully.
Must sign off now as its time for tea and I don`t want to lose rosettes for catering by slumming at my task!! Love to all chat soon
