Figueira da Foz

We left Porto at dawn and motor sailed the 60 odd miles down to our next stop, the resort town of  Figueira da Foz. If you a holiday with a long stretch of sand dunes and beach just come down the stretch between Porto and Figueira. Fantastic.

We motored into the harbour entrance and waited for the harbour master who was having a long lunch and took up our allotted berth. So configured so that it is a good mile from the marina office but only 250 metres by water! We got the bikes out

We have never seen such a beach - according to one of the guides it takes 15 minutes to walk from the coast road to the water - and that is when the tide is in

Once again the best restaurant was by the marina pontoon in an innocuous looking hut. When we enquiried about a booking we were told that we had the last available table (this was about 17:00) - which we regarded with cynicism but it proved to be the case as when we tucked into our delicious freshly grilled sea bass they were turning loads of people away. We slept soundly through the noise of a local (not very good) band and awoke to a gale warning with 3 metre swell

We stayed put for another day
